HLC/Life to the Max is a provider of high-quality vocational education and training programmes. We deliver focused vocational programmes at NZQF Levels 1 – 4 to prepare students for employment or staircase graduates to higher educational qualifications.  Life to the Max is our social services arm, providing many forms of wrap around support, if required, and further helping youth and young adults reach their potential.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

HLC/Life to the Max is looking for someone with health sector experience to share their skills and knowledge with students who are seeking careers in the health and wellbeing industry

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About the role:

As a Health and Wellbeing Tutor you will be responsible for teaching and supporting students working towards their level three New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Support Work) in preparation for joining the health and wellbeing workforce.

The key focus of this role is providing learners who wish to enter the health and wellbeing sector with the knowledge and skills required to provide person-centred, holistic and culturally appropriate health and wellbeing support to maximise a person’s independence.

You will use your knowledge and skills in the health and wellbeing sector to enhance and expand student learning.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako - Skills and experience:

  • Health industry experience

  • Hold a recognised Health Qualification

  • Vision, innovation, and a commitment to facilitating learning

  • An understanding of effectively supporting the needs of all adult learners, particularly Māori and Pasifika learners.

  • The ability to develop and implement flexible teaching and learning methods, including the use of learning technologies

  • Time management skills, including the ability to organise activities effectively and efficiently, meeting deadlines

  • Engagement with assessment and feedback processes

  • Genuine desire to embrace training learners

  • Teaching experience desirable (training and support offer for the right person)

  • Have sound computer skills -including Microsoft Office products 

IT WOULD ALSO BE AN ADVANTAGE TO HAVE:

  • Experience in the NZQA / TEC education process, or a potential to understand and operate within this industry.

  • An NCALNE qualification, or prepared to undertake this training

  • Experience in the development and delivery of multi-mode programmes or courses

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to  tikanga Māori, te reo and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

A full pre-employment safety check and police vet in accordance with Vulnerable Children regulations and a current, full driver’s licence  are required for this role.

YOUTH MENTOR - ATTENDANCE

Full time Position/Levin
We are seeking a youth mentor who is passionate about inclusive education, and keen to support students aged 6 to 16 years, who are currently disengaged from school, to attend school regularly.
Are you a mentor who builds positive and effective relationships with young people?
Are you relatable and committed? 
Are you able to organise yourself, information, and online reporting, and work independently?

WHO WE ARE 

HLC/Life to the Max is a community organisation with a wide spectrum of social service, education and employment programmes.
We work in partnerships, such as with students and their whānau to support Tamariki and Rangatahi to realise their full potential and create their future.  

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is in Attendance Services within our Social Services team (Life to the Max). 
Our Attendance Mentors predominantly work with schools to manage attendance with an aim to achieve a sustainable return to school for students who are currently disengaged, and enable solutions towards better engagement in education. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work with schools and manage a full caseload of referrals in a timely manner, connecting with students and whānau to create a back-to-school plan. 

  •  Liaise and refer effectively with key service providers and statutory agencies which collaborate to help create sustainable plans of re-engagement.  

  • Ensure timely and regular communication with schools on all referred students.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Previous experience working in partnership with young people /whānau  

  • Experience in implementing effective strengths-based interventions and supports for young people and their whānau 

  • Ability to apply theoretical concepts and professional knowledge to your day-to-day delivery and communications 

  • Knowledge of local networks, social support systems and local community resources is really important – and collaborating, to help build supports for Tamariki, Rangatahi and their whanau

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Computer literacy across Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience using data platforms such as client management systems is advantageous (but not required of computer-literate, fast learners)

  • Ability to work cross-culturally and communicate effectively with a broad range of people

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to tikanga Māori, te reo and Te Tiriti o Waitangi

A pre-employment police and safety check, including full vetting in accordance with Vulnerable Children requirements is required for this role – and  a current, full NZ driver’s licence is essential.

Employment Service in Schools Coordinator

Horowhenua area – Term time only position 37.5hours per week (negotiable for right candidate)

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role requires you to work with college students who are Neuro diverse or have some condition or disability.
You would support these students in the last two years of college with the aim to encourage work or higher education as a future option.
You will be competent in assisting students with CV’s and Cover letters, interview skills and working beside them to overcome barriers to employment and other related skills.
You will also be required to source workplace training or volunteer work that fits with their goals and aspirations.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Effective communication, administration and interpersonal skills including good computer literacy skills for record management.

  • Ability to network with local employers to build and maintain relationships and to help them understand the needs and strengths of the students you work with.

  • Excellent self-management and understanding of people who are neuro diverse or have conditions/disabilities.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to tikanga Māori, te reo and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
