The sport and exercise science field is wide open, with exciting careers available to skilled and motivated people. While studying this certificate you will be introduced to the effects of exercise on the body, and how to write a training programme, along with aspects of sport coaching, the fitness industry, event management and the application of sport medicine and injury management.
This is a hands-on, practical programme where you will benefit from industry experience and knowledge of the lecturers.
On successful completion of the course students will receive:
- Certificate in Exercise and Sport Performance Level 4
- First Aid Certificate

- Exercise Science (Psychology & Biomechanics)
- Sport Coaching
Students will need Literacy and Numeracy requirements of NCEA Level 1 or equivalent.
Because students may be working in schools, all applicants are required to authorise HLC & UCOL to obtain a background check from the New Zealand Police Licensing and Vetting Agency. Convictions of any offence may not necessarily exclude applicants from enrolment; the decision is at the discretion of the Programme Leader.
Where to from here?
On successful completion of this programme graduates will be qualified to work as a Gym Instructor, Athletic Trainer, a Coach, Sport Co-ordinator (Schools), Sports Administrator & Recreation Co-ordinator.
